| The
things that we expect to happen rarely happen. But even if they do, there
are always differences – certain surprises that make life interesting.
Such it is with this Southwest Landscape project.
It has been in progress for nearly 20 years. And in looking back on some of the early pieces, and comparing those to ones that I’m doing today, it looks like a different hand at work. Although I see the same subject matter, use the same equipment, the same film, and print on the same paper, there is a definite progression with regard to "point of view." In traveling the same roads as before, I see the landscape through a different lens. Whether I am guiding this progress or whether I am being guided, I don’t know. What is certain is that this journey is far from over – that this landscape has not finished having its way with me. The images are just as they are found. Aside from the constraints of the medium such as monochrome and focus limitations, the only thing that I provide is a point of view and the time of capture – simplicity itself. No hands-on effort of any kind is used to change a scene during capture and darkroom manipulations are held to a bare minimum; many are "straight" prints. The photographs are being offered in editions of 20 16x20 (nominal) silver gelatin prints mounted on 20x24 4ply boards. Matt overlays are hinged with archival linen. The edition status and signature are written on the front of the substrate and printing information is stamped on the back. All are the product of either 4x5 or 8x10 negatives. Throughout the production process, strict archival standards are maintained and no more than 20 prints will be made from each negative. When the edition is complete the negative will be destroyed. The first 15 prints are priced at $700.00. The remaining 5 are subject to a price increase. Sales are final after a 30-day approval period, and a full refund will be made, for any reason, within that period. Old World Wisconsin Although not landscape, I have included a project that I did about 20 years ago. Old World is a living museum in southern Wisconsin. The buildings and furnishings are all authentic and it is operated during the summer season by a dedicated staff. Food is prepared and crops are harvested just as they were 150 years ago. For those interested in historical re-enactment, this is truly a valuable resource. The images are all captured on 4x5 negatives and presented on silver gelatin print stock. Prints of this series are available in 11/14 size mounted on 14x17 boards. The price is $250.00 ea. for the first 15 prints, with an increase for the remaining 5 of and edition of 20 prints. And similar to the landscape series, the negative will be destroyed when the last print has been sold. To purchase prints or request edition status.
