The back is now made from 5 ply aviation plywood.  The weight that was saved in using this material is what enabled the base plate to use a thicker gage stock.  The horizontal / vertical back rotation feature is retained in the new version.  Although the weight is still at 8.7 lb., the net result is an improvement in stability.
